Their small studio showcases unique jewellery and inscribed silver rings down one of the narrowest streets in Rome, Italy. Three small exhibiting windows feature some of their most precious silver and gold jewellery creations. Recognisable only by simple cast iron branding on the door, it would be only too easy to miss this needle in the haystack.

David was born in Nebraska into a family of painters and goldsmiths. In 1974 he began his apprenticeship in Rome and soon after, began many long term collaborations with respected leaders in the field. Yutaka, a descendant from a family of Japanese kazarishoku masters. He moved to Rome in 1982 to further his studies of traditional European metalsmith techniques and today, each piece is characterised by a remarkable sobriety and refinement.

Both designers have a wealth of experince in their industry including degrees in art, studies in ancient techniques and ornamentation and have collaborated with some of Italy’s most established silver and goldsmiths.

They have worked as executor of jewels and sacred objects in movies, worked as professors in Universities, are respected members of many contemporary, Japanese and Italian jewellery associations and have judged at annual awards.

In 2002, they joined forces in this studio and now as established artists, Both Yutaka and David annually get involved in many exhibitions around the world including Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, Spain, Japan and most recently, Beijing in China.

With our eye on the beautiful pieces displayed in the elegant window showcases, we were determined for David and Yutaka to become a part of Fourth Crusade. We. set up an appointment to meet in their studio where we expressed our keen interest to bring the unique rings that are a small stature of history, design, quality and uniqueness into Australia.

In the small studio which is taken up mostly by laboratory space, they exude nothing but pure passion for their artform as they speak about the history and background surrounding each of the quotes featured on the posy rings.

Their pride In their pieces, while available to Romans is not something Yutaka and David are out to sell masses of. Each hand crafted ring is special and their quiet pride in being asked if they would like to create pieces for Australia was taken as a most appreciated compliment.
